Hurricane Helene Relief

North Carolina

Grassroots Aid Partnership is headquartered in Asheville, NC, which means the flooding of Hurricane Helene devastated our home community. GAP is working tirelessly to provide nourishing food, clean water, and fortifying aid to the survivors of the horrific flooding.

📦 Over 50,000 family meal boxes delivered 📦

Starting in early December, GAP connected with various distribution hubs and food banks throughout western North Carolina. Supported by a Relief-to-Resilience grant from the American Red Cross and with a strong focus on supporting local farms, we prepared, packed, and delivered family meal boxes (produce, grains, proteins, snacks, and toiletry goods) across eight counties in Western North Carolina.

🍏 $3 million in food and aid delivered 🍏

Through GAP's partnering model, we brought in food and aid donations from companies nationwide and joined forces with local nonprofits to facilitate the ongoing delivery of goods to those in need.

🍛 225,000 healthy meals served! 🍛

Within 48 hours of the storm, GAP began serving nourishing home-cooked meals to survivors, sustaining that effort through the long-term recovery stage — boxing up and delivering hundreds of meals daily to outlying communities where needs remained most dire.

💧 2 million gallons of clean water provided! 💧

When Asheville and surrounding communities lost access to drinking and grey water for nearly two months, GAP installed temporary clean water systems at community centers, restaurants, nursing homes, and other critical locations.
